Shaker Heights Interest Group is a Non-Profit 501c3 that supports Greater Cleveland Area youth in the Arts.
Shaker Heights Interest Group (SHIG),founded in 1983. is a civic organization composed of professional women. It has a particular interest in highlighting, encouraging and promoting the development of the artistic talents of highly motivated Greater Cleveland (Ohio) Area students.
SHIG established a collaborative arrangement with Interlochen Summer Arts Camp promoting study of the performing arts for students. It has awarded financial assistance which enabled recommended students to attend the prestigious camp and have a unique opportunity for artistic training through classes and group/private lessons in music, dance, creative writing, visual arts or theater, depending on their area of talent and interest.
SHIG has provided financial support for students to attend camps with the intent of: broadening the students’ perspective of the value of arts in society and the contribution which their individual talents can make; providing significant arts mentoring and distinguished arts educational opportunities; enhancing each student’s proficiency with his/her arts vehicle; exposing the students to the professional arts experiences which are shared by camp faculty and staff as well as national and international experts in the various fields. The students are selected from Greater Cleveland Area schools.
SHIG recently celebrated its 30th anniversary as an organization that has made a difference in the lives of a number of students in the Greater Cleveland Area. We are continually expanding our support of students by incorporating a variety of music camps.
